Argentia Road Cycle Tracks

The City is constructing cycle tracks on Argentia Road to increase comfort, accessibility and safety for all road users.

Overview

The City of Mississauga is constructing cycle tracks on Argentia Road, from Tenth Line West to the intersection east of Winston Churchill Boulevard and a multi-use trail on the east side of Winston Churchill Boulevard from Argentia Road to north of Crosscurrent Drive.

Cycle tracks are separate and raised lanes for bicycles, e-bikes and e-scooters. The cycle tracks and oder road enhances will:

  • Increase safety and comfort of all road users
  • Provide more transportation options to travel throughout the city
  • Connect to the existing bike lanes west of Tenth Line West
  • Connect to protected bike lanes under construction east of Winston Church Boulevard

Construction is currently in progress, and expected to be complete by the end of 2023. Some minor additional work will be done in 2024.

This project was approved as part of the City’s 2022 cycling program, and is consistent with City policies, such as the Cycling Master Plan, and Vision Zero Action Plan.

There is a separate ongoing project adjacent to the Argentia Road Cycle Tracks project which involves bicycle lane installations. Bicycle lanes are being installed on Argentia Road, from the intersection east of Winston Churchill Boulevard to Derry Road West.

Features

A cycle track is a raised path for bike, e-bike, and e-scooter users. People who are walking or running, use the adjacent sidewalk.

Cycle tracks are being constructed on Argentia Road, from Tenth Line West to the signalized intersection east of Winston Churchill Boulevard. There will be a one-way cycle track on each side of the road.

 

A multi-use trail is a path on the boulevard that is shared by bikes, e-bikes, e-scooters, and pedestrians.

A multi-use trail is being constructed on the east side of Winston Churchill Boulevard, from Argentia Road to north of Crosscurrent Drive. It will connect to the cycle tracks on Argentia Road, and to the existing multi-use trail on Winston Churchill Boulevard.

 

A crossride marking highlights the place where a cycle track and multi-use trail crosses a road or driveway.

Major crossings may have a green surface, and bicycle traffic signals may be used.

The corners at some intersections may be made tighter. These types of corners are sometimes known as reduced corner radius. They slow down turning vehicles, and enhance the safety and comfort of pedestrians and cyclists crossing. Right turn channels and lanes may also be removed for the same reasons.

At some corners, red curb extensions (truck aprons) also tighten the corner, but allow the rear wheels of large trucks to run over the extension.

Truck aprons are being installed at the Argentia Road and Winston Churchill Boulevard intersection. The right turn channel at that intersection will also be removed.

The City is enhancing bus stops with yellow tactile plates and bus-length concrete landing pads. These better define the bus stopping areas, make them more visible and accessible, and highlight the crossing cycle track.

The number of road lanes are being maintained, with two lanes per direction. Some right turn lanes at the Winston Churchill Boulevard intersection are being removed to provide more space on the boulevard for cyclists and pedestrians.

There is a separate ongoing project adjacent to the Argentia Road Cycle Tracks project. The project involves the reduction of road lanes.

Construction hours

Construction work will mostly occur during regular constructions hours, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Some work may occur later or overnight if required.

The City makes every effort to keep construction noise to a minimum outside of regular construction hours.
